Þorleifsson, shared a photo on his Twitter account, where he was meeting with the mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, the mayor of Reykjavík, Dagur B. Eggertsson and the deputy mayor of Paris, Lamia El Aaraje. The meeting took place at Þorleifsson’s restaurant on Tryggvagata, Anna Jóna.
The post did not specify whether additional partners have already been set or how many ramps will be built in the Paris region.
The campaign for the launch of the Ramp Up Reykjavík project began in 2021, with the goal of establishing 100 ramps in Reykjavík in less than a year to increase wheelchair access in restaurants, shops and other service locations.
The project has since expanded rapidly, with the original 100 ramps built ahead of schedule and under cost estimates, and a decision to build 1000 ramps nationwide in four years, this figure was then raised to 1500 ramps.
Neither Þorleifsson, nor the mayor of Reykjavík, could be reached for comment in making the story, but a report from the City of Reykjavík says that Hidalgo has studied various projects in Iceland, including the operations of the Energy and Carbfix. The mayor also said he has mediated between the mayor of Paris and Þorleifsson regarding the cooperation of the city of Paris with the Icelandic Ramp Up Iceland in preparation for increased accessibility at next year’s Olympic Games in Paris.
