York House is named for two enterprising women from Yorkshire who ran this small hotel in the 1880s. The building dates from the 17th century when it was a Carmelite convent. It now offers 33 rooms, unashamedly contemporary in décor, reached via steep, stone stairs (which for some might be unmanageable) in a quiet residential part of Lisbon.
