The Spanish continues to be the fifth largest “motorcycle” market in Europe (after Turkey, Italy, France and Germany) and is one of the fastest growing.
Sustained by a strong consumer’s demand, in 2023 sales increased 12.4% reaching 217.456, the highest level out of the last 15 years and the third growth in a row.
In 2024 the market was expected to slow down, as economic wind could be against. However, the first quarter data, up 4.0% at 48.080, was encouraging and in April the market hit a +20.6% with 20.355 sales, moving the year to date figures up to 68.435 (+8.4%).
The growth is driven by the motorcycles segment (+15.3%) particularly strong in the 751-1000cc class (+16%). However, even the scooter segment is positive (+3.0%) although electric demand was weak (-33.3%) against all expectations.
Looking at top manufacturer’s performance, Honda was still on top with sales up 2.2%.
In second place Yamaha is fast growthing (+42.7%) pulled up by NMAX125 (+162%) and MT-07 (+102.5%).
In third place Kymco (+3.8%) is ahead of BMW (+1.6%), Piaggio (-19%), SYM (-0.3%), Kawasaki (+24.5%) and Zontes (22.5%).
