Warner Bros. Discovery June 11 announced that its Max branded subscription streaming VOD app is now live in France and Poland, completing the first wave of European launches that began last month.
Max is now available in 25 countries in Europe, spanning Iberia, France, Benelux, Nordics, and Central and Eastern Europe and 65 countries and territories in total globally. An enhanced HBO Max also launched in the Netherlands, and will launch in Belgium on July 1, after an early access period starting June 11. Max arrives in Southeast Asia later this year.
Max will be the exclusive European SVOD home for the Paris Olympics.
“With over half the worldwide market still ahead of us, the globalization of Max is only just beginning,” JB Perrette, CEO of global streaming & games at WBD, said in a statement.
The launch will see the second season return of HBO Original “House of the Dragon” on June 17 in Europe. Later this year, the new series “The Penguin” and “Dune: Prophecy” arrive on the platform as well.
The global box office No. 1 hit in 2024, Dune: Part Two, is available now in addition to Barbie, Wonka, and the “Harry Potter” franchise from Warner Bros., and Aquaman, Joker and Batman from the DC Universe. HBO Originals include “The Last of Us,” “Succession,” “The White Lotus,” “Euphoria,” and all four seasons of “True Detective.”
Classic episodes of “Friends” and “Big Bang Theory” from Warner Bros. Television, and Discovery’s reality TV shows “90 Day Fiancé,” “Gold Rush” and “Naked and Afraid” are available in Europe as well. “CNN International” is also live on Max in France and Poland ahead of the CNN Presidential Debate on June 27.
Local language scripted projects coming to Max include the upcoming French titles “Black Lies, Malditos” (working title), and an adaptation of the book Living with our Dead, plus the docuseries “Now or Never: FC Montfermeil.” Polish originals include the final season of “The Convict,” the second season of “The Thaw,” and the premiere of “The Easterngate,” “Lady Love” and the documentaries Hope, The King of Zanzibar and Skin Hunters.
Over the next 12 months Max subscribers will have live access to the Australian Open, the U.S. Open and the Laver Cup, with tennis viewers in Poland, Belgium and the Netherlands also able to stream the French Open, Wimbledon, and cycling’s three grand tours, Giro d’Italia, La Vuelta a España, and the Tour de France, in addition to the Tour de France Femmes (women), 24 Hours of Le Mans, and all major winter sports World Championship and World Cup events.
