What every fashion-conscious traveler really needs is an expert to curate a destination-specific capsule wardrobe.
Freelance editor, artist and content creator Kerry Pieri understands the art of intentional wardrobe selection. She is also well-versed in traveling while looking perennially-chic, having regularly jet-setted the globe as the former fashion director at Harper’s Bazaar. “I consider my style minimalist with interest. I like details or something interesting in each look while keeping things restrained,” she writes in an e-mail to Forbes.com. Her Instagram feed is a study on the elegance in color-blocking and ubiquitous neutrals, a look that is cohesive from her wardrobe to her interior decor. Limited Color Palette
One way to optimize the ability to mix-and-match comes down to embracing a minimalist color palette. “I am having a black and white summer so far! It makes it really easy and I think very chic to work within a limited [color] palette,” Pieri writes. “Add a red lip and a fun pendant necklace and you’re golden.”
Her personal aesthetic conveys a clean minimalism that is softened by the use of neutrals and earth tones, interspersing contemporary silhouettes with classic pieces and vintage finds. She often uses texture, as opposed to color or prints, to provide variation and nuance that can be found in the details—like, say, your choice of lip color or jewelry.

Summer in Europe calls for breathable fabrics and airy cuts, like linen shorts and flowing maxi dresses. “[I packed] a few great white dresses—like a drop waist by Dissh I’ve been loving and an airy Khaite poplin dress in a fun shape,” Pieri says. “I’m also into the bubble skirt [and] J.Crew has a great one.”
Her packing list also includes sleeveless tanks, and she says that she particularly loves the ones by the French brand Sézane and Wardrobe NYC. To transition to the nighttime, Pieri packed black linen trousers from Posse. “I always include a few easy knits for the evening. Soft Goat has been a recent favorite,” she adds.
Pieri’s footwear selections include two comfortable options for the daytime. She names “easy slides” like Birkenstocks and likes New Balance or Adidas Gazelle sneakers as go-to’s for comfort. For added height, she recommends flat-bottomed heel styles to make up for Europe’s charming cobblestones (which are difficult to walk on in heels). She packed flatform sandals, specifically the Neil J. Rodgers Obi Flatform, $525, and wedge heels, both of which are great for either day or night. “I also include one fun shoe, like my Larroudé silver wedges,” she says of the Larroudé Yves Wedge in Silver Specchio, $315.

Beach and Pool Essentials
“This is such a good packable bag,” Pieri says of the black Dandy Del Mar The Amabile Raffia Bag, $119. Its see-through texture is reminiscent of the cotton mesh style of a French market bag, while its crocheted style and raffia-like yarn hit upon two of summer 2024’s top fashion trends.
A tote is ideal for sightseeing but also for holding your pool and beach essentials. Within Pieri’s, you will find a pair of her beloved sunglasses, Vehla Kaia in Malbec, $200, and quite possibly the multi-tasking tinted SPF, Agent Nateur holi(sun) SPF 50, $58, which imparts both protection and coverage. She says that she likes to refresh her hair with dry shampoo after a day by the water, naming Rossano Ferretti Vivace 24/7 Parma Dry Shampoo Cream, $20, as her favorite pick.
Her chosen swimsuit is a sleeveless one-piece with black-and-white stripes. The SAME Los Angeles Stripe Strapless One-Piece, $195, offsets its simplicity with the incorporation of a faux-suede texture. Should you step away from the water’s edge and make your way to a cafe or bar, it can be easily paired with flowy drawstring linen pants, a wrap skirt or even a pair of shorts. “I love my Away luggage,” she says of the lightweight, hard-bodied line of luggage and travel accessories. “I also always bring Xlear nasal spray for the flight because it helps you [prevent] getting sick. I’ve been doing it for eight or nine years and it works like a charm.” The nasal spray contains ingredients like saline and xylitol, with some variations including essential oils, to help with symptoms like congestion, dryness and irritation.
Lastly, because Europe is known for its cuisine and fresh ingredients, Pieri recommends her favorite digestive enzymes, Enzymedica GlutenEase, $26.24, in case you happen to be gluten sensitive. “I am gluten-free because of sensitivity but I like to dabble when I’m abroad,” she says. “I always pack these pills that make gluten easier to digest.”
