The Fishermen’s Association, together with Fiskebåt Vest, the sales organisation Surofi, and the Marine Competence Centre, is responsible for this extensive event.
On Friday morning, 10th-grade students from a total of 28 junior high schools were invited to a packed TV broadcast starting at 10:00am and running until 11:30am.
“We are very excited to tell the young people about all the exciting things happening in the fishing industry and what they can experience,” says Steinnes.
Program highlights included:
– Exploring school and job opportunities.
– Interviews with apprentices who are currently or have been on fishing boats.
– A teacher from Ålesund VGS will discuss the educational path to enter the industry.
– Entertainment by a local artist, Sverre Eide.
– A Kahoot competition with a prize for the winner and their class.
“The goal of the event is to make the industry visible to students at a time when they are choosing their own path in life. The offer is designed both as an information package to increase knowledge about the industry and to provide an impression of what the fishing industry has to offer in terms of opportunities. Our experience is that regardless of your education and whether you want to work at sea or on land, the fishing industry needs your skills,” concludes Bjørn Kåre Steinnes.
