Weak consumer demand, record inflation and skyrocketing interest rates hit in 2023 the British 2-wheeler industry, with total sales for the year being 113,496 (-2.5%).
The start of the 2024 was not better, with the market still struggling a bit. After the first five months of the year, sales are at 48,694 units (-0.1%).
Upon examining the data, we note that the motorcycle segment experienced moderate decline, now at -0.4%. In contrast, the scooter segment saw an increase of 1.0%.
The electric segments also were subject variable performance. The electric L1 category saw an increase of 23.4%, while the electric L3 class saw a modest decline of -0.7%.

Looking at top manufacturer’s performance, Honda confirms the leadership, although with sales slightly declining (-0.4%). In second place, Yamaha has reduced the gap from the leader, gaining 4.6% ytd. In third place, Triumph gained 16.0% while, in fourth, place BMW lost 1.8%.
Behind them stand Kawasaki (+8.0%), KTM (-6.2%), Royal Enfield (-0.5%) and Suzuki (-0.1%).
