While other European 2-wheeler markets in recent months have shown a growing tendency (like Italy, the biggest one), the French motorcycle market has experienced a notable decline in the first five months of 2024. Total sales reached 106,287 units, marking a 7.2% decrease compared to last year. The market segments displayed varied performances, although all are negative.
Up until May, the motorcycle segment saw a slight dip of 2.0%, while scooter segment faced a significant drop of 16.3%.
Both electric segments declined, with the electric L1 taking the biggest hit (-41.6%), while the electric L3 saw a modest 3.4% decline.
Market Leaders and Performance
Looking at top manufacturer’s performance, Honda maintained its leading position with a marginal increase of 0.9%. Yamaha experienced a slight decline of 0.8%, while BMW showed growth with a 2.1% increase. Notably, in fourth and fifth position, Kawasaki and Triumph exhibited substantial growth, with sales surging by 18.3% and 13.4%, respectively.
But immediately after them, Piaggio lost 15.1%, KTM lost 5.2%, and SYM lost 10.1%. Suzuki is a rising star, confirming the first quarter strong growth and now at +34.6%, partly thanks to newly introduced models.
