Get your ski legs ready, because you’re going to need them. The Arlberg region has a total of over 300 km of groomed slopes plus 200 km of runs for off-piste lovers, serviced by 85 lifts and cableways.
This is thanks to five different ski areas coming together to form one huge resort, all accessible through just one lift pass. And each have their own personality, from the family-friendly environment of Stuben to the gourmet village of Lech and the sporty vibe of St. Anton.
2. The snow is amazing

It’s one of the snowiest areas in the Alps, receiving an average of 9 metres of fresh snow annually. This is all thanks to the high altitudes of between 1300 and 2800m. And as you’d expect, the snow season here is lengthy, running between November and May.

This is the official birthplace of alpine skiing, where the sport was not only pioneered but perfected. Hannes Schneider founded Austria’s first ski school in St. Anton all the way back in 1921. It was also home to the first chairlift and the renowned Galzigbahn cableway.
If you’re into your skiing with a side of history, there are countless museums, art galleries, and historical landmarks throughout the area that tell the story of this region’s amazing history, traditions and folklore.
4. There’s so much more to do

When you’re done with exploring all those runs on skis or a snowboard, you can switch over to a different activity. Like winter hiking, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, tobogganing, ice skating, curling, and even horse-drawn carriage rides.
Wellness and spa facilities like Arlberg WellCom and sport.park.lech are also a must-see while in the region, offering indoor and outdoor pools, Finnish saunas and steam rooms.
5. It’s heaven for foodies (and wine lovers)

Food and wine lovers delight: This area happens to have Austria’s highest density of award-winning restaurants relative to its population. Many of these restaurants are accessible only by cable car or skis, offering all those stunning mountain views alongside gourmet meals.
The local cuisine – think cheese spätzles, wiener schnitzels and apple strudel – are prepared with regional products, and top-class wine cellars attract food and wine lovers from around the globe.
