Cotton candy-flavored grapes seem about as likely to exist in the real world as yetis, ligers and a humble Kanye West. An all-natural fruit that legitimately tastes like the carnival treat? Pish posh. Can’t be real.
And yet, it is.
Through a partnership with International Fruit Genetics, California-based company Grapery has cross-bred different types of grapes to create all-new varieties, including one that tastes like spun sugar. The green grapes are plump and juicy—and thankfully, they don’t leave your hands all sticky like actual cotton candy—but you’ll have to stick a reminder in your iCal: They’re only available in August and September.
If the very thought of Cotton Candy Grapes has you staring at your screen in slack-jawed wonder, brace yourself, because Grapery has equally surprising other varieties, like Moon Drops (eggplant-shaped black grapes) and Gum Drops, which taste just like the gummy candy. We could see them as a sweet addition to your horoscope cheese plate, your summer picnic, or just as a snack as you watch six guys launch a Slim Jim into space.
You can find the grapes at most major grocery stores, including Whole Foods, Publix, Wegman’s and Sam’s Club.
