Another photo shows King Frederik and Queen Mary with all four of their children as Princess Isabella, now second in line to the throne, and twins Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine join the family portrait.
The images have been shared as a week of history draws to a close in Denmark. Queen Margrethe II abdicated on the afternoon of January 14th 2024, the 52nd anniversary of her reign and was succeeded immediately by King Frederik.
Hundreds of thousands of people crowded around Christiansborg Palace to see the new king proclaimed by Prime Minister, Mette Frederiksen, before cheering the monarch and his consort in a balcony appearance that ended with a kiss.
Celebrations continued as huge crowds enjoyed a carriage procession taking King Frederik and Queen Mary back to Amalienborg Palace where they again appeared to cheering crowds.
