Yow’s early role at the Olympics may be as an impact substitute from the bench.

Tanner Tessmann and Gianluca Busio are better known to fans in Europe and the team-mates helped Venezia win promotion to Serie A last term.

Operating in central midfield together they made a name for themselves as two of the Italian second tier’s most exciting talents. Tessmann has been linked with several big clubs already this summer, including Italian champions Inter Milan and Ipswich Town, who have just been promoted to the Premier League. Rome-based sports newspaper Il Tempo has linked Roma with Busio.

There is another pair on the Olympics squad who will be team-mates at club level next season. Right-winger Taylor Booth scored six goals in 21 appearances for Eredivisie side Utrecht, despite a knee injury sidelining him for eight games. Next term, he will be joined by midfielder Paxten Aaronson, who has been loaned to the Dutch club by Eintracht Frankfurt.

The latter earned his move with an impressive winter loan at another Dutch club, Vitesse, where he scored four times in 14 games. Booth is another player who is unafraid of going for goal (89 ‘shot volume’ below) and will hope to build on a season in which Utrecht got to within a game of qualifying for Europe.

Finally, there is the current U.S. Soccer young male player of the year for 2023, Kevin Paredes. The 21-year-old had a strong season in the Bundesliga at Wolfsburg, proving adaptable at either wing-back or wide midfield. This year he signed with the same agency as Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior, Roc Nation Sports.

Paredes was in contention to make the Copa America squad on home soil but starting on Wednesday, he has a chance to remind everyone why the international program rates him so highly by going for gold in France.
