This European-Inspired Aperitivo Bar Is Bringing Spritz Culture to NYC

Although spritzes and summer have long gone hand in hand, this brand new bar on the Lower East Side promises to satisfy your sparkling cravings all year round. Founded by Sam Ross and Michael McIlroy, the brains behind Attaboy—a regular contender on the annual World’s 50 Best Bars list—this natural wine and spritz-focused joint seamlessly meshes the duo’s love for refreshing, acid-forward drinks and Europe’s top aperitif cultures.

“We had a lot of fun bringing this concept to life because it is different from what we created at Attaboy,” says McIlroy. “As bartenders, we are privileged to have traveled across the world and have grown quite fond of the art of aperitivo—which fueled us to create an environment where people could gather over cocktails, wine, and snacks and not worry about much else outside of what to order next!”

Opened in June 2024, Good Guys offers a small-yet-curated offering of original spritzes that highlight a number of unique ingredients. For example, the bar’s Long Legs and Heavy Handed cocktails highlight Lambrusco rather than Prosecco, which brings an added punch of flavor and texture to the final drinks. “We wanted to show the versatility of spritzes outside of the classic Prosecco + Aperol/Campari combination, so you’ll see an impressive Amari collection on our back bar,” reveals Ross.

In addition to refreshing spritzes, Good Guys range of snacks comes curated by Jesse Parnell, who formerly worked with the duo at Temple Bar. Fan favorites include smoked trout dip served with crudité and house-made potato chips, as well as a variety of tinned fish, creamy labneh, and more. Ross describes the menu as whimsical, playful, robust, and delicious. “Throughout our menu, you’ll see heavy nods to Spanish tapas and tinned fish culture, Parisian wine bars, and Italy’s la dolce vita,” he affirms.

Now entering its fourth month in business, Good Guys is currently planning out seasonal menu changes and holiday happenings, along with a handful of exciting collaborations with brands that the pair personally knows and loves. “[Above all], our spritzes and snacks still reflect our creativity that put Attaboy on the map, but are simplified to create an atmosphere that invites you to linger over drinks and snacks with good company and great service,” Ross summarizes.

Good Guys is located at 134 Eldridge Street on New York’s Lower East Side and is open from 5pm to 1AM/2AM daily. All seating operates on a first come, first served basis. No reservations.
