Plano-Based Integer Holdings Corp. (NYSE: ITGR)—one of the world’s leading medical device contract development and manufacturing organizations, with $1.59 billion in 2023 revenue—has doubled down on its longtime presence in the Emerald Isle.
Last week, Integer opened its new $30 million European medical device innovation and manufacturing center in Galway, Ireland. The 67,000-SF facility will support increasing demand for regional research, development, and manufacturing as well as additional capacity for catheters, medical textiles, and delivery systems, Integer said.
That followed the opening of a $60 million, 80,000-SF expansion of Integer’s guidewire manufacturing facility in New Ross, County Wexford, Ireland, earlier this month. (Guidewires are thin metal tubes used to guide catheters and other devices into place during minimally invasive medical procedures.)
That expansion increases manufacturing capacity at the New Ross site by more than 70%, Integer said, and includes new “state-of-the-art” manufacturing equipment to support customers’ long-term growth.
Integer said it continues to increase employment in Ireland, with more than 1,700 currently employed in the region.
Acquired Ireland’s Aran Biomedical in 2022

The two facility openings come on the heels of Integer’s $140 million 2022 acquisition of Aran Biomedical, located in Spiddal, Ireland. A leader in proprietary medical textiles, high-precision biomaterial coverings and coatings, and advanced metal and polymer braiding, Aran develops and manufactures solutions for implantable medical devices.
“Our expansion in Ireland provides Integer with the capacity and differentiated capabilities to amplify our customers’ innovation and help them bring products to market faster,” Integer President and CEO Joseph Dziedzic said in a statement. “Integer’s significant investment in Ireland demonstrates our commitment to supporting our customers’ growth and furthers our unparalleled ability to be their partner of choice for developing the next generation of lifesaving and life-enhancing medical therapies.”
Integer has had eyes on Ireland since 1994
Integer has had its eyes on Ireland for three decades—while going through several transformations over the years, including acquisitions and mergers that have led to its current form and identity.
““Since Integer—then Lake Region Medical—first expanded into Ireland 30 years ago, our local team of talented professionals has partnered with leading medical device companies to develop and supply innovative, high-quality products to customers around the globe,” John Harris, EVP of global operations and manufacturing strategy at Integer, said in a statement.
“We’re excited about the expansion of our development and manufacturing network in Ireland and look forward to continued growth as we strengthen our ability to support our customers’ long-term strategy and technology needs, both in Ireland and globally,” Harris added.
