Wolves under-21s begin their Premier League International Cup campaign on Thursday evening.

Monaco are the visitors to the SEAH Stadium as James Collins’ youngsters look to go toe-to-toe with European opposition in Telford.

The Old Gold come into the game following Monday’s 4-1 victory over Leeds United, their first Premier League 2 win of the campaign, and are on a run of just one defeat from their last five in all competitions.

Fixtures against Dinamo Zagreb, Ajax and Valencia are to come later in the year, but Monaco are up first in Group A for Wolves.

Last season, Collins’ side progressed out of the group stages for the first time after topping their group, before losing out in the knockout stages to eventual champions Crystal Palace.

Monaco will be hoping for a better group stage campaign than in 2023/24, where they collected just three points from games against Fulham, Everton, Palace and Liverpool.

Their under-19s have already competed in European competition this season where, just last week, they ran out 4-3 winners over Barcelona’s youngsters in the UEFA Youth League.

WHAT THE BOSS SAID

“Monaco just beat PSG, Barcelona and Liverpool in the last three games, so they’re half decent and it’ll be a really tough game Thursday.

“We’re not in developing these players to win competitions, but winning competitions and pushing to try and win competitions is obviously part of their development.

“With the group we’ve got this year, that International Cup is going to be an incredibly tough tournament, as is the Bristol Street Motors competition.”
