Apart from workshops on tactical perspectives, the attendees also took part in physical fitness tests, received nutritional guidelines from experts and discussed key aspects regarding mental preparation. One of the subjects that drew the attention of the participants referred to the use of the video replay system — how and when to use it. Paivi Mitrunen, EHF Delegate from Finland, highlights the way the seminar contributed to a better understanding of this new technology.
“We are always talking, learning and reading about it, but now we also saw some really good cases, why for example some of the referees are not using it. We saw some really good examples where it seems the ball is inside, but after looking from more angles, you realised it wasn’t actually inside. Our eyes can also be lying, so we need to trust video replay in some cases.”
Experienced Spanish referee Yon Bustamante agrees that it is crucial to use video replay technology in a proper way and clear guidelines assure alignment on this topic. He also highlights that the seminar served as an opportunity for the participants to interact and exchange perspectives on different subjects.
“These kinds of seminars are also very useful for team building, I think that in this championship for example, organised by three countries, we don’t have the opportunity to work together, we are in different countries. So from my point of view, it’s very important to have the opportunity to work and have a common line for our performance.”
The topics discussed at the seminar helped the participants feel ready for the upcoming championship.
“We worked really hard during these three days, with full support from the EHF. My feeling is that we are already prepared after this weekend for the EHF EURO,” concludes Bustamante.
