In Belgium, as in other European countries, student accommodation shared with older people in retirement homes is starting to gain momentum as an exercise in intergenerational housing. In exchange for a few hours of presence alongside the residents of the establishment, these young people benefit from accommodation which is much cheaper than normal, and above all brings a breath of fresh air to the elderly residents with whom they exchange regularly. After the Ehpad scandal in France and while the European population continues to age, this idea has taken hold as a way to better integrate seniors into society. On this International Day of Older Persons, FRANCE 24’s team in Belgium reports.
