Ireland scoops eight gongs for best resorts at Conde Nast Traveller awards

Limerick’s Adare Manor topped the list of the Best Resorts as chosen by its readers. Set in 840 acres, the luxury hotel has numerous restaurants, bars, spa, and an award-winning golf course.

A few years back, it opened two and four-bedroom lodges for those who prefer a self-catering stay in Ireland. Shanon Airport is only a short distance away.

#4 – Ashford Castle, Co Mayo

The location of Ashford Castle in Cong, Co Mayo is spectacular all by itself. Set in 350 acres of woodland, landscaped gardens and a lake, it is one of the best resorts in Ireland.

It boasts six restaurants, three bars and incredible interiors that wouldn’t look out of place in Bridgerton or Downton, only fancier. The five-star spa has a 10m pool, sauna and steam room, plus five treatment rooms for face and body treatments. Unsurprisingly, it wins travel and spa awards year after year after year.

Ireland’s best resorts dominate the top of this Conde Nast Traveller list. Trump Doonbeg comes in at number five out of 25 and its beachside location is also part of its appeal.

Along with a great golf course, The White Horses Spa has plenty of treatments on offer to relax, reinvigorate or simply while away some time before dinner in one of its two restaurants.

At number six on the list of the best resorts in Europe is Sheen Falls in Co Kerry. A dreamy hotel and spa set on 300 acres in Kenmare, the hotel has golf, spa and endless rambles to enjoy while you get away from the city for a little R&R.

Reading a good book by a roaring fire is one way to while away the hours before dinner in one of its three restaurants this autumn. Sheer bliss, we reckon.

A breakaway at Dromoland Castle is the ultimate luxury. Only last year the team revamped the spa and it now includes six treatment rooms, a twin suite, an Amber and Quartz Crystal bed, and a sublime relaxation space – The Whisper Room.

Throw in the roll call of famous faces that have stayed at Dromoland (John Lennon, Muhammed Ali, Johnny Cash and John Travolta have all stayed at the 16th-century building) and you’ll be amazed how fast you can get accustomed to castle life.

The Lakes of Killarney is the dream location for tourists and staycationers looking for breathtaking views. the freshest food and clean air.

The Europe Hotel is a more modern and luxurious winner on the best resorts list, if castles aren’t your thing, a stay here would be a real treat this autumn. There are fine dining and more casual restaurant options.

The Dunloe Hotel and Gardens sits on 64 acres in Co Kerry. The chic hotel made the best resorts list, coming in at number 18, and if you are looking for a more adventurous weekend away, guests can enjoy horse riding, swimming, tennis fishing and more at the luxury hotel.

The spa at The Dunloe is the place to spend a few hours on a cold day, enjoy a sauna or trip to the steam room before having a cocktail at the bar and heading to dinner at The Grill Restaurant.

#19 – Powerscourt Hotel, Co Wicklow

Powerscourt Hotel is only a short drive from Dublin if you are tight on time and it has breathtaking views of the Wicklow Mountains.

In the spa, you can enjoy a massage, facial, nail treatment and much more, before enjoying the tranquil pool, sauna and steam room, or while away your afternoon in the jacuzzi, sitting overlooking the beautiful grounds. After dinner and drinks, you will probably have the best sleep of your life from all that fresh air.
