Monaco at night
Besides needing to save up in order to enjoy the country to the fullest, there is a lot to know before entering Monaco. One of the main things being that there isn’t one culture that is affiliated with Monaco.
While the country and microstate is located near France and Italy, it is home to at least 125 different nationalities, all of which come with their own set of cultures and traditions.
Because of this interesting fact, preparing yourself to visit Monaco is a different process than what one takes when visiting other countries. If you were to visit France or Egypt, you can acquaint yourself with the local customs.
However, with Monaco being a mix of many different backgrounds, it’s not possible to familiarize yourself with all 125 nationalities that you may encounter during your visit.
Because Of Monaco’s High-End Luxury, Tourism Is Low

The country of Monaco is on the list of the most expensive areas, making it difficult for people to relocate or visit. While it may seem appealing to digital nomads due to Monaco having no income tax, the country is made up almost entirely of millionaires and billionaires.
In fact, the country of Monaco doesn’t even measure its poverty rate because the microstate’s average GDP is one of the highest in the world.
While this may seem like a good problem to have, it prices many people out of relocating to the area or visiting on a vacation. The bulk of tourists that come to Monaco are celebrities or extremely wealthy individuals.
Although the tourist-to-residence rate seems high (roughly nine tourists for every resident), it only appears that way because of the meager population that Monaco has. In actuality, the second-smallest microstate in Europe has the smallest tourist population at less than 350,000 individuals per year.
Instead of a typical vacation destination, Monaco seems to serve as a networking hub for the rich and famous. While the country is beautiful and possesses luxurious hotels, restaurants, and a top-notch casino, many other European destinations are more budget-friendly and offer more attractions.
The world’s elite are likely to enjoy visiting Monaco due to the connections that can be made and the privacy they are afforded. When everyone in the country is famous or highly successful in one way or another, it’s more probable that privacy will be upheld.
The juxtaposition of Monaco being one of the most wealthy countries while also being one of the least visited is an interesting characteristic that you don’t often see. If you are interested in a front-row view of the world’s most wealthy and famous, a trip to Monaco should be on your radar.
However, be sure to budget well ahead of time and keep your expectations in check to ensure that you have a good time and aren’t disappointed by the country’s costs.
