“Moldova’s integration into the European Union is the main objective and, until Moldova joins the EU, Romania will stand by its side to help it overcome the challenges,” the Prime Minister of Romania Marcel Ciolacu promised at a joint conference held in Chisinau with his Moldovan counterpart Dorin Recean, IPN reports.

According to the Romanian official, €20 billion is invested this year in Romania and this means integration into the EU. Romania benefits from €500 million for afforestation alone, and the average salary in Romania at present is €1,100, while the average pension – €200. The integration into the EU will bring this to the Republic of Moldova, too,” said Marcel Ciolacu.

The Romanian official also said that the Russian Federation cannot offer any guarantee to the Republic of Moldova and that Russia will take Moldova to the area of isolation, poverty, and will not bring either security or development.

According to Premier Ciolacu, Moldova must have a direct connection on the European railway gauge, between Chisinau and Iasi. “The period with the Flower Bridge is over and there must be more involvement to develop the two countries. Romania should be the bridge of the Republic of Moldova to the EU. It must not be dependent on Romania,” stressed the Romania official.

For his part, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova Dorin Recean said that with his Romanian counterpart, they discussed the extension of the strategic partnership between the states, which is essential for the European integration of Moldova.

“Romania has always been a reliable partner, offering valuable support in the most difficult moments and on the European path. Romania is a reliable supporter of the citizens of the Republic of Moldova. Through the renovation of kindergartens and scholarships for Moldovan students studying over the Prut, Romania contributes to improving the teaching of the Romanian language in schools of national minorities and supports agricultural producers in Moldova,” noted the Moldovan official.

Dorin Recean announced that 20 Romanian buses were handed over on Friday and they will reach schools in Ungheni, Briceni, Soroca, Drochia, Ocnița, Causeni and other districts.

The Moldovan Premier sad that the plan to build roads connecting the regions on both banks of the Prut and connecting the road network to the Romanian highway was launched two years ago. Last week, the contract for the construction of the bridge that will connect the localities of Ungheni in the Republic of Moldova and Romania was signed. This bridge is expected to be ready in 2026 and it will bring Moldova closer to the EU and Romania, will facilitate trade and pave the way for more investments in Moldova. In addition, Romania is the largest and most stable market for Moldovan products.
