On Monday, 27 May 2024, the European Union placed Voice of Europe, Artyom Marchevsky and Viktor Medvedchuk on the sanctions list as a result of Czech proposal. Czechia had already sanctioned these entities in March through its national list. All the restrictions already applied by Czechia against them are now applicable to all 27 EU Member States.

“The fact that the EU has approved our proposal shows that Czechia knows how to do sanctions, that our diplomacy is devoting detailed attention to this agenda in order to protect the security of our country,” said Foreign Minister Jan Lipavský. Sanctions on two individuals consist of travel bans and asset freezes. Travel bans prevent listed individuals from entering or transiting through EU territory by land, air or sea. Sanctions on Voice of Europe consist of asset freezes.

Viktor Volodymyrovych Medvedchuk uses Voice of Europe media platform to run a Russian influence operation. The aim of this operation is to undermine the territorial integrity, sovereignty and freedom of Ukraine. Artem Pavlovich Marchevsky was directly involved in the operation of Voice of Europe in Czechia until his listing on the national sanctions list.
