New initiative to be piloted in selected schools in Albania

In order to meet the changing needs of its partners and beneficiaries, the Council of Europe project Strengthening Democratic Citizenship Education in Albania* is constantly exchanging with stakeholders and fine-tuning its action.

The project team met Geart Ferhati, Vice President of the Student Parliament of Albania, who proposed to pilot the IVote initiative in selected schools with which the project is working.

IVote is an initiative designed to increase student participation and encourage more democratic and inclusive environment in schools, making the students more active in decision making processes.

“One big challenge in schools is to get students more involved in voting and democratic activities. I believe active participation is important because it helps students learn about responsible citizenship and builds a healthy democratic culture from a young age,” highlighted Geart in his presentation.

It was agreed to discuss the integration of the IVote initiative into the project’s upcoming action at the Youth Leadership School in October, considering its potential success and the immediate feedback from other student leaders.
