13 september 2024, Chișinău – Moldovan-Luxembourg cooperation will help Moldova to advance on the European path, while Luxembourg remains a model of development for our country and an example of how a small state can find its well-defined position in the European Union. Prime Minister Dorin Recean made the statement today after meeting with his counterpart Luc Frieden, Prime Minister of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.
Recean thanked Luxembourg for the constant support for the development of our country and the European integration, noting that the opening of Moldova’s accession negotiations to the European Union this June took place in Luxembourg.
“Luxembourg is a founding state of the European Union and a symbol of European unity. We share the same values and common commitment to build a European future in peace and prosperity for our citizens,” the Prime Minister said.
Luc Frieden assured that Luxembourg will help our country to become part of the big European family: “We are proud that your European path, your negotiations have symbolically started in Luxembourg. There are still many things to do and we are ready to offer you the necessary assistance to adjust the legislation and to go through this process successfully in the shortest possible time”, said Luc Frieden.
He also underlined the importance of the constitutional referendum to be held in Moldova in October. “You are going to create your future. Democracy, the rule of law and prosperity is what unites us, and we want to stand by Moldova on its path towards the great European family of democracies,” Luc Frieden said.
The two officials noted that the Moldovan-Luxembourg partnership allows taking over of the best practices in the finance, home affairs, social and environmental protection, and renewable energy. The Republic of Moldova wants to develop efficient markets in these areas and attract new investments in the national economy, one of the most competitive sectors being information technologies.
The officials also noted the advantage of freedom of movement with EU integration, which will create new business and investment opportunities in Moldova, as well as facilitate young people’s access to the EU’s education network: “Our partnerships in education and intercultural exchanges will open new horizons and help train a generation of young Europeans, ready to innovate and build a modern, competitive and prosperous Moldova,” said Dorin Recean.
To reconfirm Luxembourg’s strong support for Moldova’s accession to the European Union, the two officials today signed a Joint Declaration to this effect.
