The integration programme for international protection holders in Slovakia is co-financed by the European Commission’s Asylum, Migration, and Integration Fund (AMIF). Following a regular call for proposals, interested organisations submit proposals to provide comprehensive, nationwide integration services, and the country’s Ministry of the Interior recently selected a new integration service provider for the 2024 – 2026 period.

As managing authority for the AMIF programme, the Ministry of the Interior of Slovakia signed 3 contracts with the Slovak Humanitarian Council for provision of non-repayable financial contributions towards integration support and care for asylum seekers and people granted international protection.

The 3 projects these contracts cover are E.S.O., DETENT, and Rifugio II:

The E.S.O. project primarily focuses on providing comprehensive care and additional assistance for asylum seekers. Its activities will target all individuals in the facilities of the Migration Office of the Ministry of the Interior of the Slovak Republic, including unaccompanied minor asylum seekers placed in the Centre for Children and Families in Medzilaborce. With an allocation of 1.6 million euros, this project – running from April 2024 to December 2026 – will play a vital role in integration.
The DETENT project, with a total allocation of 975 000 euros, aims to ensure dignified living conditions for individuals placed in specialised facilities of the Border and Foreign Police Office. Specifically, it targets third-country nationals (TCNs) in police detention units for foreigners in Medveďov and Sečovce. This project will run from April 2024 to February 2027.
With funds totaling 1 550 000 euros, the Rifugio II project actively engages in the network of social service providers in the integration field for persons granted international protection. It offers professional social, health, legal, economic, and cultural support, including assistance with labor market and educational integration. The project will run from April 2024 to December 2026.
