Norway joins EU sanctions against Belarus

MINSK. Oct 8 (Interfax) – Norway has joined the sanctions imposed by the European Union on Belarus, the Norwegian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on its website.

“The new sanctions are in line with the measures introduced by the EU against Belarus on June 29, 2024. These are comprehensive sanctions, targeting several sectors of the Belarusian economy, including trade, the services sector and transport,” the statement said.

“In addition, the new sanctions will help prevent circumvention of anti-Russian sanctions. Some sanction measures introduced against Russia apply to Belarus as well,” it said.

Norway’s restrictions against Belarus are due to Minsk’s support of the special military operation in Ukraine, it said.

The decision took effect immediately, it said.
