As noted by Norway’s Road Traffic Information Council (OFV), September 2024 was yet another record month for the country’s electric vehicle sector. The OFV noted that year-to-date, the share of electric vehicles amounts to about 88%. For context, Norway has a political goal of all new passenger cars from January 1, 2025 onwards being zero-emission vehicles.

OFV Director Øyvind Solberg Thorsen shared a comment about the matter. “We have loyally followed the authorities’ call to buy electric cars rather than diesel and petrol cars. With an electric car share of over 96% of new car sales in September, the 2025 target may be within reach,” he stated.

The OFV also highlighted that Norway’s EV sales in September were boosted by a large shipment of Teslas that arrived during the month. This shipment effectively resulted in the Model Y crossover and Model 3 sedan showing dominance in Norway’s auto sector. As per the OFV, the Model Y saw 2,107 registrations in September, while the Model 3 saw 2,067 registrations. This made the two Teslas the best and second-best-selling vehicles in the country last month.

The gap between Tesla’s two mainstream vehicles and their competitors was notable as well. Norway’s third best-selling vehicle in September was the Volvo EX30, which saw 803 registrations. The fourth and fifth best-selling cars in the country were the Skoda Enyaq and the Toyota bZ4X, which saw 702 and 659 registrations, respectively.
