Uncapped duo called up to England squad for Nations League clashes against Greece and Finland – as injuries hit Lee Carsley’s side

The uncapped duo of Curtis Jones and Tino Livramento have been added to Lee Carsley’s England squad for Nations League clashes with Greece and Finland.

The camp was hit by an injury crisis with the interim manager losing Kobbie Mainoo, Morgan Gibbs-White and Ezri Konsa after the trio sustained knocks over the weekend.

Carsley initially decided against making further additions to the squad, instead opting to rely on the remaining members to spread out the minutes over the two matches.

However, the boss has now brought Jones and Livramento up from the Under-21s on the eve of hosting Greece at Wembley.

Liverpool midfielder Jones was part of Carsley’s triumphant Under-21 European Championship-winning side and was added to the senior squad for the first time ahead of Euro 2024.

Meanwhile, Tino Livramento, also uncapped, comes into a depleted England squad

Newcastle full-back Livramento was one of four uncapped players picked for September’s fixtures and the only member of that quartet not to make his debut across the 2-0 wins against the Republic of Ireland and Finland.

The returning pair swell Carsley’s squad to 23 players but there are doubts over the availability of Harry Kane and Jack Grealish ahead of hosting Greece.

The Three Lions’ captain was competing for a ball in the second half of a Bundesliga match against Eintracht Frankfurt when he clashed with an opposition man and was left crumpled on the turf and needing medical attention.

It appeared that Kane suffered an impact collision on his ankle and, unable to continue while grimacing in pain, he was withdrawn by Bayern boss Vincent Kompany.

Club physios could be seen attending to the striker’s right leg as he lay in pain before Mathys Tel came on to replace him with roughly 20 minutes left.

Kane has however reported to England duty at St George’s Park in Burton-on-Trent along with the rest of the squad ahead of Nations League clashes with Greece and Finland.

The 100-cap striker was passed fit by England’s medical staff but spent both Tuesday and Wednesday doing an individualised programme rather than training with the group.

Kane passed the landmark for the Three Lions in the match against Finland at Wembley during the last international break and marked the occasion with two fine goals to earn his team a victory.

The Euro 2024 runners-up welcome group leaders Greece to Wembley on Thursday evening, before travelling to Helsinki to face Finland on Sunday.

The Nations League fixtures represent Lee Carsley’s second chance to impress after taking over from Gareth Southgate this summer.

The interim manager inched closer to receiving approval for the full-time gig with solid victories over Ireland in Dublin and against Finland.

The Three Lions looked rejuvenated particularly in the former match, with former Republic of Ireland internationals Jack Grealish and Declan Rice secure three points for England.
