In an expression of support for press freedom, Malta has announced a voluntary contribution to the Council of Europe Campaign for the Safety of Journalists- Journalists Matter, acknowledging the importance of safeguarding journalists both domestically and internationally.

The Council of Europe’s Campaign for the Safety of Journalists is a comprehensive initiative aimed at raising awareness and enhancing the safety of journalists worldwide. From harassment to physical violence and intimidation, journalists encounter numerous risks while fulfilling their essential role in providing information to the public.

The Council of Europe member States recognise  the critical role journalists play in upholding democracy and the rule of law, and committed to address the increasing threats and challenges faced by journalists, by supporting and implementing the Campaign at national level.
