Summer lovers bid farewell to their favorite season. Gone are the heatwaves and tropical nights, making way for the long-awaited fall, which usually brings rain, cooler temperatures, and earlier sunsets.

With the arrival of autumn, it’s time to switch out your wardrobe, and most importantly: set your clocks back. On the upcoming night from October 26th to 27th, 2024, the time change will occur in our country, transitioning to winter time.

When does winter time start in 2024 and at what time does it start?

As is customary in Spain, at the end of the month we will have to set back the clock one hour: in the early hours of October 26th to 27th, 3:00 a.m. will become 2:00 a.m., so that day will officially last twenty-five hours, as stated in the Official State Gazette (BOE).

There is some controversy about the suitability of maintaining daylight saving time in the European Union (EU). While some experts argue for its continuation for energy saving or social organization reasons, others contend that this concept has lost its original utility. Moreover, it could have negative impacts on health.

The EU has also taken a stand on this debate. The European Commission sought to put an end to the time change in 2019, but the decision was postponed due to a lack of adequate assessment of the impact on the economy and transportation. Furthermore, European citizens do not want to continue with this system either: a public consultation in 2018 revealed that 80% of Europeans want to end this practice.

A complete mystery
Until when will daylight saving time continue to exist?

However, this time adjustment will remain in place for now until October 2026. From that year onwards, there is a possibility that this custom may become history, or on the contrary, continue to be part of the routine of Europeans, giving us an extra hour of sleep.
