The new charging hub in Varberg is located on the TEN-T Scandinavia-Mediterranean corridor between Gothenburg and Malmö in southwest Sweden. According to Milence, the “location serves as an important stop-off point for hauliers and heavy-duty vehicle drivers travelling along the main logistics routes in Sweden.”

So far, Milence has only opened the first phase of the charging hub. It features four 400-kW chargers with two charging points each. For the second phase, “set to launch in 2025,” the charge point operator will add more CCS and MCS chargers. Milence successfully tested MCS for the first time in July. With MCS, which is still being standardised, Milence wants to significantly increase charging capacity and enable heavy commercial vehicles to be charged even faster and more reliably.

Customers can pay using one of the many charging cards, as the CPO “has signed agreements with various e-Mobility Service Providers (eMSPs) in Europe.” Milence emphasises that direct or ad hoc payments using a credit card or the Milence app will also be possible. The default charging tariff is roughly 40 cents per kWh (excluding VAT).

“Sweden is one of the leading countries in Europe when it comes to sustainability and energy transition, where electric road transport is a reality today. With ten charging hubs under development and three to open by the end of the year, this is one of our key markets and fleet operators can now start using the Milence network,” says Milence CEO Anja van Niersen. “This is possible thanks to the support we receive from all the relevant stakeholders in the market, for which we are very grateful, and we are happy that our hub openings are becoming a platform for exchange and cooperation”. The other two charging hubs planned for Sweden this year will open in Åstorp and Ödeshög.

Founded in 2022 with 500 million euros from Daimler Truck, Traton Group and Volvo Group, Milence is now picking up speed. While there have only been announcements of planned locations for a long time, the new charging park in Sweden now joins the first charging parks to be opened in the Netherlands, Belgium and France – and the first two are also due to open in Germany this year. Milence plans to have 70 truck charging parks in Europe by the end of 2025.
