Football latest: What next for England after Greece shock? Plus Forest fined after social media comments

England 1-2 Greece

Lee Dixon
Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 Live Breakfast

Fair credit to Lee Carsley – he has always been saying he has got three camps, and he is saying that more so now after they have had the defeat. Maybe he wants to go back to the Under-21s after last night.

It was very brave of him to do that [playing Jude Bellingham, Cole Palmer and Phil Foden], but having said that, with the talent he has got at his disposal, everybody has been shouting out about trying to fit them all into one team.

It didn’t work for lots of reasons but that focal point up front, where you can bounce balls off and get them back into midfield, and then have a third man running beyond, was absolutely absent from minute one.

What surprised me the most was not that he had a go at doing something different – and I guess he is saving face a little bit – but that he didn’t change it at half-time.

After 45 minutes you would think that there would have been a steady improvement, but there wasn’t, so take it on the chin and say ‘you know what, I am going to make a change straight away’. It took him an hour before he made a change and that was probably his downfall.
