The event featured distinguished guests including Her Royal Highness the Grand Duchess Maria Teresa of Luxembourg, president of the association Stand Speak Rise Up!, and Chékéba Hachemi, the former first female Afghan diplomat, women’s rights activist, and co-founder of the association.

The discussions highlighted the association’s transformative efforts in advocating for survivors of sexual violence in conflict-affected areas, as well as supporting children born of rape. During the event, the Grand Duchess and Ms. Hachemi showcased several ongoing projects aimed at providing survivors with access to essential services, such as housing, healthcare, and education. These initiatives also focus on helping survivors achieve long-term economic independence. Their presentations were followed by an engaging discussion with EIB staff, exploring ways to further support survivors and promote human rights.

Since its inception in 2019, Stand Speak Rise Up! has directly supported more than 6,000 women from 13 countries, including Afghanistan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda, and Ukraine. This event at the EIB underscored the collective responsibility to amplify the voices of survivors, work toward ending sexual violence as a weapon of war, and advocate for the protection of human rights.
