Ambassador Jobst von Kirchmann Discusses Gender Equality Initiatives in Film

Speaking during an interview, Jobst von Kirchmann, the Ambassador of the European Union to Zimbabwe, highlighted that this year’s theme, “Beyond Boundaries: Empowering Women Through Film,” reflects the ongoing collaboration between the EU and Zimbabwe on gender equality and women’s empowerment.

“The European Union and Zimbabwe are working together for a couple of years now on the topic of gender equality and women empowerment.

The Film Festival should live up to that topic. That’s why we decided it should be about women from A to Z. From the ones organizing it, to the actors, to the films to the filmmakers as special focus is on women.”

Cinematic Journey Expands: EU Film Festival Takes the Celebration to Other Cities in Zimbabwe

The 10-day cinematic adventure which began at the vibrant Mbare Art Space in Harare is still ongoing. This year’s edition has expanded to include two new cities: Kadoma and Gweru.

The Film Festival has been held in Kadoma on October 15 at the Campbell Theatre and in Gweru today, October 16, at the Gweru Memorial Library.

The festival is set to conclude in Bulawayo. The Bulawayo edition, taking place at Ster Kinekor, will run from October 18 to 20.

Ambassador von Kirchmann Advocates for Permanent Expansion of the EU Film Festival

Speaking on the expansion of the EU Film Festival from Harare to other cities in Zimbabwe, Ambassador Jobst von Kirchmann expressed his hope that this would become a permanent feature of the festival.

“l believe having an EU film festival only in Harare is too little. Bulawayo is already good. But now on the way to Bulawayo it should not be a one off. But it should be something we do every year. And we should go out, around in the country there are so many fantastic places and they don’t have a film festival. So we hope in the coming years that we are not only repeating what we do this year but we can even more enlarge it and have other locations as well.”
