Arsenal linked with raid on Premier League rivals for star striker that would stun the whole of Europe – Transfer News

Arsenal have been linked with a top striker after it emerged there has been “no sign of progress” in contract talks at his current club.

Arsenal have started the season in fine form and currently sit third in the Premier League. In Europe, they have four points on the board following a 0-0 draw with Atalanta and a 2-0 home win against PSG on October 1.

The summer signings of Riccardo Calafiori, David Raya and Mikel Merino cost a combined £94m, with loanees Neto and Raheem Sterling also adding to the strength of Mikel Arteta’s squad.

Although Arsenal boasted the best defence in the league last term, having conceded just 29 goals, question marks remain over their lack of a world-class goal scorer.

Arsenal’s closest title rivals – Manchester City and Liverpool – have clinical finishers such as Erling Haaland and Mohamed Salah in their team.

Kai Havertz has led the line for Arsenal so far this season, with Gabriel Jesus appearing regularly as a sub.

Havertz has surprised a few with six goals in ten games so far this term. However, neither him or Jesus are typically known for their ruthless finishing ability.

If the Germany international was to get injured, this could be a problem for Arteta’s side.

The Gunners were thought to be interested in RB Leipzig star Benjamin Sesko in the summer, but no deal materialised. The Austrian has since signed a new contract with the Bundesliga side, tying him to the club until 2029.

But fans will be pleased by recent reports that Newcastle United forward Alexander Isak, 25, has ‘stalled on signing a new contract’ – according to talkSPORT.

The report suggests the Sweden international has been in talks regarding a new deal for a number of months, but ‘there is no sign of progress in the negotiation’.

Isak, who netted 21 times in the Premier League last season, is thought to have been on Arsenal’s radar for some time. The 25-year-old is under contract on Tyneside until 2028 but is said to want to increase his wages to become the club’s top earner.

Despite this, in June 2024, Isak voiced his “love” for Newcastle in an interview with Swedish outlet Fotbollskanalen.

“I’ve just had the best season of my career,” he explained.

“I’m really happy at Newcastle. I love everything about it: the club, the fans and the city. My future is not something I will speculate on.

“I have no thoughts on leaving. There has been no talk about it at the club, and I have received no information that the club would have to sell me.”
