Albania leads in Europe, over 46 percent of the population is at risk of poverty – Telegrafi

According to data from the European Statistics Agency (Eurostat), over 46 percent of the population in Albania is at risk of poverty or social exclusion.

The assessment for Albania in the report published on Tuesday on the risk of poverty and social exclusion in Europe is based on data from 2021, a period when in the southern region of the country 46.5% of the population was at risk of poverty and social exclusion, in the central region 46.6 % and in the northern region 46.7%.

The indicators for Albania, according to Eurostat, are significantly higher compared to other neighboring countries of the Western Balkans, where Montenegro has 34.1% of the population at risk of poverty, North Macedonia 32.6%, Serbia 30%, while Bosnia and Herzegovina and Kosovo do not there are data.

Eurostat data for European Union countries show that in 2023, about 21.4% of the European population or 94.6 million inhabitants were at risk of poverty or social exclusion.

The highest levels of the population at risk of poverty, according to Eurostat, were recorded in the most remote French regions, in southern Italy and in rural Romanian regions.

According to the definitions of Eurostat, “the risk of being poor” includes those persons who are severely materially and socially deprived and live in families with very low income from employment.

According to the Albanian Institute of Statistics (INSTAT), the limit of the risk of being poor for a person in 2022 is estimated at 225.931 ALL per year, compared to 191.791 ALL per year in 2021.

Yes, according to INSTAT, in 2021, 622,705 individuals were estimated to live below the risk limit of being poor, while in 2022, approximately 576,316 individuals were estimated. /VoA/
