The opening is a response to increasing demand from clients for closer proximity to EU institutions and deeper insights into the evolving regulatory landscape, the firm said. Wolf Theiss Brussels will primarily advise on EU competition law, mergers, foreign direct investments, state aid, and compliance issues.
The intent is for the Brussels hub to act as a gateway to key EU institutions while strengthening collaboration with partner law firms in Central and Eastern Europe.
Small Footprint, Big Ambitions
“Our Brussels office has a smaller footprint than big players such as Freshfields, Latham or Linklater, and we don’t fight for the same big transatlantic mandates locally,” Bauer said. “Our idea is to support our existing clients well in Brussels and to be even more attractive for referral firms thanks to our local presence.”
Wolf Theiss clients include the XXXLutz Group, a major furniture manufacturer from Austria, and the IT company The firm recently advised Spanish telecommunications giant Cellnex on the sale of its tower business in Austria to a consortium for €803 million ($894 million).
Wolf Theiss has around 390 lawyers across 13 countries in East and Southeast Europe, with about 100 of those solicitors based in Austria. The firm’s ambition is to be the leading firm in the Central and Eastern European region.
