Finland’s Prime Minister Petteri Orpo (NCP) and his Ukranian counterpart, Denys Shmyhal, began a meeting in Helsinki on Friday morning.

The pair were scheduled to discuss topics including Ukraine’s need for further aid, Finland’s support for Ukraine, Ukraine’s Euro-Atlantic integration and the implementation of Ukraine’s Peace Formula initiative.

Orpo and PM Shmyhal will also meet with representatives of Finnish business and industry on the subject of the reconstruction of Ukraine.

Shmyhal will also meet Finnish President Alexander Stubb and Speaker of the Parliament Jussi Halla-aho (Finns).

Shmyhal is being accompanied to Helsinki by the Ukrainian Minister of Environment Svitlana Hrynchuk and Minister of Health Viktor Liashko.

Ukraine peace summit

On Saturday, Finland will host a high-level online conference on the topic of environmental security in relation to Russia’s war on Ukraine.

Finland agreed to host the event from Helsinki, at Ukraine’s request. The meeting will be opened by Prime Ministers Orpo and Shmyhal, and chaired by Finland’s Environment Minister Kai Mykkänen (NCP) and Ukrainian Environment Minister Hrynchuk.

Cooperation in health care

Finland and Ukraine will also sign an agreement on bilateral cooperation in the health sector. Practical preparation of a cooperation programme will start after the signing of the agreement.
