An example of a sign promoting THE LÄND

Situated in the southwest of Germany, the Baden-Württemberg federal state (known as THE LÄND) is one of Europe’s leading business and industrial hubs. Although it’s known throughout Germany for its strong economy, excellent job prospects, and exceptionally high quality of life, it has a serious skilled labor shortage. A newly launched innovative government campaign aims to change this crisis by 2030.
The local government, spearheaded by the state’s head Minister, President Winfried Kretschmann, has extended an open invitation to prospective skilled migrants to apply for a new career in THE LÄND by visiting the campaign
website to access the Relocation Guide and a ‘Wall of Opportunities.’
The initiative is backed by some of Germany’s leading technology and manufacturing brands, including Mercedes-Benz and IBM.
To compound the seriousness of this initiative, Minister-President Kretschmann recently televised an official speech in which he said, “Baden-Württemberg will need a mid-six-figure number of skilled workers by 2030, and we invite skilled workers to come here no matter where they are from. We would like to extend a clear invitation to everyone out there—to any intelligent life, LÄND HERE.”
The local government has followed suit with a campaign to draw residents in. It promotes the existence of a region with an exceptional quality of life and multiple high-level employment opportunities. The supersized invitation is backed by a series of policies and programs to welcome talent and make relocating easier.

Baden-Württemberg is home to 149 leading global companies and also has an average of more than 28 days of holiday per year. The cosmopolitan state is home to over 11 million people, of which 31% have a migrant background and enjoy living in a scenic setting with diverse attractions. Notables like Nobel Prize winner Harald zur Hausen, who played a decisive role in developing the world’s first vaccine against cancer, is among the pioneers from Baden-Württemberg.
Baden-Württemberg is located in the heart of Europe, in Southwest Germany, bordering France and Switzerland and near Austria.
There are some 50,000 km of hiking trails to explore. Whether you’re in the Swabian Alps or the Black Forest– it’s never monotonous, with the SeeGang hiking trail on the German shore of Lake Constance.
Breweries- more than 200- are another attraction. The region makes more than 1000 varieties of beer! The Rothaus Baden State Brewery produces the famous Tannenzäpfle (“fir cone”) beer in the heart of the Black Forest.
Another tasty cultural asset is the authentic Swabian Maultaschen. These filled pasta pockets originate from the local Kloster Maulbronn monastery, designated a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site.
Baden-Württemberg has abundant nature and is known for its beautiful lakes. Lake Constance (Bodensee) is Germany’s largest lake and a popular destination for water sports enthusiasts, cyclists and hikers.
The globally known Black Forest is one of Germany’s largest forests, with dense woodlands, picturesque valleys, waterfalls and traditional Black Forest farms. The forest is also home to the Ravenna Gorge (Ravennaschlucht), which has fantastic hiking trails.
Hohenzollern Castle (Burg Hohenzollern) is one of Germany’s most beautiful and best-preserved castles, which is perched on a hill and has a stunning view of the Swabian Jura (Schwäbische Alb) which has rock formations, ruins and caves.
Regarding cities for an urban fix, consider Heidelberg, a picturesque old town with an impressive castle and the country’s oldest university. Then there’s Tübingen and its fairytale-like medieval old town and Freiburg im Breisgau in the Black Forest, featuring Freiburger Minster Cathedral.
Baden-Württemberg also offers quaint villages worth your time. Schiltach is a half-timbered village in the Black Forest, known for its well-preserved medieval houses.
Lots to do and see, jobs aplenty and the standard of living great- it’s no wonder why the government is trying to entice people to move in.
