(IN BRIEF) Montenegrin companies Merkator International and IceCom are making significant strides in sustainability with the help of a joint initiative from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the European Union (EU). The program helps businesses invest in greener technologies to improve competitiveness while cutting energy costs and environmental impact. (PRESS RELEASE) LONDON, 19-Oct-2024 — /EuropaWire/ — Montenegrin companies, such as Merkator International and IceCom, are embracing green investments to create a more sustainable future with support from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the European Union (EU). Authored by Nina Tsintsadze, the initiative aims to enhance the competitiveness of small businesses across Montenegro while reducing energy costs and environmental impact through greener technology investments.

Merkator International, a long-standing player in outdoor advertising and printing, has invested in eco-friendly printing equipment, allowing it to offer high-quality, energy-efficient label printing services. Industrial and graphic designer Marko Šćepanović emphasized that the company’s growth aligns with its commitment to sustainability, resulting in new services, more clients, and lower energy bills.

Similarly, IceCom, a leading supplier of kitchen equipment in Montenegro, modernized its facilities by installing energy-efficient heat pumps, reducing operational costs and environmental impact. CEO Aleksandar Blečić credited the EBRD-EU program for enabling the company to invest in new technology while maintaining liquidity, essential for continued growth.

The EBRD-EU program supports businesses in Montenegro through loans offered via partner financial institutions like Crnogorska Komercijalna Banka (CKB), complemented by EU grants and consultancy services. Both Merkator and IceCom exemplify how green investments are driving business growth and sustainability in Montenegro.
