Worldwide, education and research is the sector most targeted by attackers, with the problem most severe in Africa, followed by Latin America and Europe.

Luxembourg companies most commonly face attacks on software to give unauthorised access to sensitive data, as well as malware hidden in fake updates distributed on the web or by email.

Worldwide, attacks are most commonly carried out by criminals imitating trusted brands like Microsoft, Apple and Google.

Check Point Software Technologies, which compiled the data, provides AI-based, cloud-hosted cybersecurity platforms to over 100,000 businesses worldwide. The Israeli-American company was founded in Tel Aviv in 1993.
