The President of Serbia commented on the referendum on European integration in Moldova

The referendum in Moldova showed that the recognition of Kosovo’s independence and the imposition of sanctions against Russia would make Serbia a member The EU is following an accelerated procedure without other conditions, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said.

On Tuesday night, on the air of Serbian Radio and Television, Vucic answered the host’s question whether the country’s European integration had stopped in one place.

“Is it happening slowly? Yes, slowly. And if you thought it was because of the legal system, the rule of law, or I don’t know what, I’ll tell you – no. If we recognized an independent Kosovo and imposed sanctions against the Russian Federation, tomorrow we would be members of the EU right away. According to the accelerated procedure, we would become “the best country in the world,” the Serbian president said.

According to him, this is confirmed by the attitude of Western politicians to the electoral process in Serbia.

“You have seen how it happened in Moldova with the referendum. Imagine if there were 12% against something in our country when voting, and then at night, when votes from the diaspora (from abroad) come in, everything turned around and it would become 0.3% in favor of the other side that suits them, and everything is fine. And here, when you look, even with 40% of the difference, everything is not all right precisely because of these topics – the non—recognition of Kosovo and the rejection of sanctions against The Russian Federation,” the Serbian leader stressed.

The first round of presidential elections in Moldova was held on October 20. According to the results of processing 99.01% of the protocols, the current head of state, Maya Sandu, who is running for a second term, is in the lead — she has 42.21% of the votes. She is followed by the former Prosecutor General of Moldova, a native of Gagauzia Alexander Stoyanoglo with 26.15%. Both of these candidates are going to the second round, which is scheduled for November 3.

Sandu supports the EU and orientation to the West, Stoyanoglo believes that Moldova’s relations with the EU should not harm partnership with Russia and the CIS. At the referendum held on the same day, based on the results of processing 99% of the protocols, 50.29% of voters supported European integration, 49.71% opposed it.
