On Friday 5 July 2024, H.E. Ms Carole Lanteri, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Principality to the Office of the United Nations in Geneva, attended the 56th session of the Human Rights Council to review the findings of the fourth Universal Periodic Review (UPR) of Monaco’s human rights record.
H.E. Ms Lanteri responded to the recommendations made with respect to the Principality during the examination in a meeting held on 29 January 2024. She reconfirmed the Government’s unwavering commitment to promoting and protecting human rights. Several Member States of the Human Rights Council as well as NGOs expressed their views on the report and welcomed the Principality’s commitment.
The final report of the UPR Working Group was adopted by consensus, thus marking the end of the fourth review.
The UPR is a mechanism which was introduced within the framework of the UN Human Rights Council. It allows the Council’s Member States and observers to review the human rights policies of their peers and to make recommendations about how they can be improved. All UN Member States are subject to a UPR once every five years.
