Secretary General Marija Pejčinović Burić, in her meeting with the President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatović, has welcomed the country’s active stance in the Council of Europe, including the joining of the Register of damage caused by Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, and excellent technical co-operation. She encouraged Montenegro to continue playing a constructive role in the region.

The Secretary General emphasised the readiness of the Organisation to continue assisting Montenegro on its reform and European Union accession paths. She welcomed the recent high-level appointments in the judiciary, encouraged the authorities to complete the process and to continue working closely with the Council of Europe, in particular the Venice Commission and GRECO to implement all outstanding recommendations, as they are also relevant for the EU accession process.
