This regime cannot survive if Serbia approaches the EU

People in Serbia need to know that joining the European Union (EU) is not conditional on us recognizing the independence of Kosovo or on lithium mining, stated Borko Stefanović, deputy president of the Party of Freedom and Justice (SSP), in an interview with FoNet.

He underlined that lithium will not be mined and that Serbia will join the Union, but without the current government.

“This regime cannot survive if Serbia gets closer to the EU,” Stefanović remarked in the Kvaka 23 series, noting that for more than four years, the government has made absolutely no progress in terms of European integration.

In his conversation with Zoran Sekulić, he said that the potential opening of one negotiation cluster is entirely irrelevant because we already have several open clusters, but none have been closed.

“As long as we don’t reach Chapters 23 and 24, which deal with the rule of law, the fight against corruption, the judiciary, and media freedom, Serbia will not make any substantial progress,” Stefanović explained, convinced that with this government, Serbia will not enter the EU.

However, he pointed to a significant problem in Europe, which is that some of our interlocutors and partners have dangerously shifted toward a transactional relationship where only the economy and money matter, but not values, principles, or criteria.

As he interpreted it, this is irrelevant to them because they have Aleksandar Vučić as a partner, “who literally buys his own stay in power by giving away our resources, our land, water, and air to whoever he poses for photos with.”

“It is terrifying hypocrisy when you come from a developed Western democracy to Serbia, hug Vučić, kiss him in front of the cameras, and at the same time tell your citizens back home that you are a symbol of democracy, freedom, the rule of law, and prosperity,” Stefanović remarked.

One of our tasks is to expose this, he said, and pointed out that it is impossible to have Serbia, as the most significant country in the region, in the process of European integration if it is led by an autocrat.

“It is impossible to resolve the issue of Kosovo and Metohija in a way that aligns with our national interests if Serbia is isolated, if it is a playground for autocrats to see who can dazzle their voters more with lies, corruption, election fraud, and media brainwashing,” Stefanović elaborated.

He believes it is essential for everyone to understand that you cannot come from Europe to Belgrade, promote certain values, and then say that it doesn’t matter, “let’s mine lithium, sell Rafale jets, or see if you can continue exporting grenades to Ukraine, which Vučić is ashamed of.”

“Vučić won’t tell his voters about this, it embarrasses him. That’s why Vulin exists, as living proof of what Vučić’s true policy is. Vulin is the real Vučić,” Stefanović stated.

Citizens need to know that entering the European Union (EU) is not conditional on us recognizing the independence of Kosovo or on lithium mining, Stefanović reiterated in his interview with FoNet, stressing again that lithium will not be mined, and that Serbia will join the Union, but without this government.

Stefanović: With Vučić in power, EU accession is impossible

“This regime cannot survive if Serbia approaches the EU,” Stefanović repeated in the Kvaka 23 series, observing that the government has made absolutely no progress on European integration for over four years.

In his conversation with Zoran Sekulić, he reiterated that the potential opening of one negotiation cluster is irrelevant because several clusters are already open, but none have been closed.

“As long as we don’t address Chapters 23 and 24, which deal with the rule of law, the fight against corruption, the judiciary, and media freedom, Serbia will not make any substantial progress,” Stefanović explained, adding that he is convinced that with this government, Serbia will not enter the EU.

One of our tasks is to expose this, he said, adding that it is impossible for Serbia, the most significant country in the region, to be part of the European integration process if it is led by an autocrat.

“It is impossible to resolve the issue of Kosovo and Metohija in a way that aligns with our national interests if Serbia is isolated, if it is a playground for autocrats to see who can dazzle their voters with more lies, corruption, election fraud, and media brainwashing,” Stefanović explained.

“Vučić won’t tell his voters about this because it embarrasses him. That’s why Vulin exists, as living proof of what Vučić’s real policy is. Vulin is the real Vučić,” Stefanović stated.

He emphasized that no one in France, Britain, Germany, or the U.S., nor in Moscow or Beijing, will fight our battles for us, stressing that the Party of Freedom and Justice openly states that we must fight for our own freedom, democracy, and normal life.

“However, we still haven’t learned that when it comes to Serbia, it’s about interests, not love. If the German auto industry wants to move away from Chinese lithium, they are happy to have Serbian lithium, but our interest is not for Germany to go green while we remain ‘black,’” Stefanović pointed out.

According to him, change in Serbia is not necessary for American or German citizens, but for us and our lives: “This is our country, and we have nowhere to go, nor do we want to leave.”

“Vučić often likes to say that he won’t run away and will stay in his country, even though none of us are telling him to run, but that reveals the ‘psychological hell’ he is going through,” Stefanović said, describing it as the “hell of a convert.”

He pointed out that Vučić is a radical who is forced every day to lie to the citizens of Serbia, as well as to his foreign interlocutors, in order to stay in power as long as possible and for himself and those around him to become as wealthy as possible.

When asked about the Party of Freedom and Justice’s position that early parliamentary elections should be held, Stefanović responded that the opposition is cooperating well and that it is clear Serbia must have early parliamentary elections, but the government must fulfill electoral conditions and implement the recommendations of the OSCE and ODIHR missions.

Stefanović further explained that they are not asking for maximalist demands, but rather “the bare minimum” to prevent the “horrible tampering with the electoral roll and the situation with RTS, which, in terms of information, operates like a factory newspaper for the ruling party, only reporting what state officials say, and that’s it.”

“We need early elections because in 2022, the government announced it had stopped the Jadar project and lithium mining, but then after the June elections this year, it said it would resume the project,” Stefanović added, noting that citizens are angry and disappointed by the obvious lies.

He believes that more and more citizens of Serbia realize that we must consign this regime to history in order to finally live normally, stably, and securely. According to him, citizens need to know that a change of government is possible and that there are people who are better, more competent, and more responsible than those before.

“We are strongly against all forms of violence,” Stefanović emphasized, warning that violence benefits the regime, which fosters both physical and verbal violence, as well as a new cultural model of behavior, and promotes it through national television channels.

“The government allows our children to be poisoned by hatred and violence, while all values have been completely distorted,” he pointed out, condemning any attempt to put Serbia in a position where problems are solved through violence. He said it takes a lot of patience and endurance to avoid their traps because they desire violence. “They dream of Pinochet-style stadiums, but they know they can’t do that because of Europe,” claimed Stefanović, who believes that Vučić is “essentially a Lukashenko without a mustache.”

In terms of foreign policy, Vučić wants to be Tito, which is tragically comical, but in reality, he is Tito from AliExpress, Stefanović compared, and assessed that the government is in a gradual but unstoppable decline.

We must ensure that in this downfall, they don’t destroy everything around them, said Stefanović, stressing that this exit must be normal, civilized, and peaceful, so that “no one is harmed.”

However, all those who have stolen from this nation and country will have to answer before the law and return the property according to the law on the origin of property, Stefanović concluded.
