Lithuania plans in 2025 to dismantle the transmission line with Russia and Belarus. This was announced by the operator of the Lithuanian power transmission system — Litgrid company.

According to the Lithuanian company, the liquidation of power lines will be possible after the Baltic countries withdraw from the BRLL and synchronize their power systems with Western Europe.

“Part of the power transmission lines with third countries is currently operating. All lines will be disconnected on February 8, 2025, after the expiration of the BRELL contract. Work on their demolition will begin immediately after that,” the company said.

In the future, Lithuania is going to dismantle the lines connecting Vilnius and Molodechno, Alytus and Grodno, Kruonisskaya pumped storage power plant and Sovetsk, Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) and Smorgon, Bitenai — Sovetsk bridge.

Recall that in 2022, the Baltic countries signed an agreement to disconnect until 2025 from the BRLL network connecting Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia with Belarus and Russia. On July 16, 2024, the Baltic OTS notified Moscow and Minsk of the non-extension of the joint system agreement and withdrawal from it in February 2025.
