The Central Election Commission of Moldova has recognized the referendum on the country’s accession to the European Union as having taken place and approved its final results.
According to the CEC press service, the final turnout was 50.35% of voters (1.48 million people). Of these, 749.7 thousand voters voted for European integration, 739.1 thousand people opposed joining the EU.
The Commission has also prepared a report on the conduct of the referendum, which, in particular, displays the process of voting, vote counting and centralization of results. The relevant results will be sent for approval to the Constitutional Court of the country.
Recall that the referendum on European integration was held simultaneously with the elections of the President of Moldova on October 20. Only 9 out of 36 districts of Moldova voted for changing the Constitution for the sake of joining the EU, and in In Gagauzia, more than 90% of those who voted voted against European integration.
As reported by EADaily, previously the former Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs RM Valery Ostalep said that the Constitutional Court of Moldova cannot recognize the result of the referendum on European integration.
