On September 25, upon the initiative of the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Nicosia, a mural to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the largest enlargement of the European Union was unveiled in the capital of Cyprus. The work symbolizes European unity, cooperation and cultural diversity.
The work is located in the Old Town of Nicosia, near the City Hall and next to the archaeological site.
The mural depicts ten dancers symbolizing the nations of the countries that joined the EU in 2004, namely Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia.
The figures in the mural form a circle that represents the mutual connections between the countries. Their different positions indicate the common strength and solidarity on the path to European integration.
The EuroMural project was initiated by the Polish Embassy in Nicosia and implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cyprus and the embassies of the Czech Republic, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Malta, Slovakia, Slovenia and Hungary, as well as the European Commission Representation in Cyprus.
The project was designed and executed by TwentyThree, an international street artist born and living in Cyprus. He has been active since 2012 and his work goes beyond stencil techniques and includes participatory art projects, illustrations, interactive installations and experiments with cyanotype.
