Night trains are becoming increasingly common in Europe as a climate-friendly alternative to short-haul flights. The state-of-the-art Nightjet from OBB means traveling to cities like Rome, Venice or Milan is much easier and more comfortable.
Choosing the night train is the most relaxing form of travel whilst also playing an important contribution in reducing CO2 emissions. A trip with the Nightjet is around 50 times more climate-friendly than traveling with an airplane.
The new Nightjet is an important part of making rail travel more attractive whilst also achieving climate targets. The trains will be a benchmark for years and set standards for passenger comfort, sustainability and flexibility.
The innovative Mini Cabins are a particular highlight of the interior, and they grant passengers a place for privacy. Newly developed bogies [wheel frameworks] have a lightweight construction and ensure a particularly quiet journey, whilst providing convenient, efficient operations over the entire life cycle.
About the new night trains
Compartments have been made to sleep either two or four people, while the new mini-cabins are perfect for solo travelers. They are also ideal to meet passenger demands for greater privacy during the journey.
Besides a sleeping area, each Mini Cabin features a storage area, clothes hooks, a reading lamp and a locker for luggage. It also features a folding table for breakfast, which also has an integrated mirror.
Each compartment in the sleeping car is fitted with its own toilet and shower facilities. Moreover, the fixed beds are designed for a comfortable night’s sleep. However, there is also a seating area for relaxed reading, eating, or working. Control panels in the carriages can be used to adjust the lighting or call for service staff.
Meanwhile, compartments are accessed via an electronic key card, similar to that in a hotel room. Moreover, each carriage features video surveillance for passengers’ safety.
Each carriage features new and improved features, including more room for luggage and winter sports equipment and storage spaces for six bicycles. Moreover, each new Nightjet train also offers a couchette compartment, with disabled access and toilet facilities.
Other features of the new Nightjet trains
Equally important, the new passenger information system is integrated into all carriages, offering up-to-date travel information along the way. Besides the EU plug sockets. The new Nightjet trains also feature USB ports and a charging station for a full range of electronic devices. On that note, the train’s windows have been designed to enable better reception for mobile phones.
