Two Serbian companies sanctioned because of their support for Russia

The United States today imposed sanctions on nearly 400 individuals and companies from dozens of countries for providing military support to Russia, including two companies from Serbia and Montenegro.

According to a statement from the Department of the Treasury, the Serbian company Ventrade DOO, based in Subotica, exported military-grade radio equipment to the Russian company Promsvyazradio, which manufactures broadcasting equipment and imports high-priority dual-use technology into Russia, reports Voice of America.

The Serbian company has been sanctioned under an executive order by the U.S. government for providing financial, material, and technological support to the Russian company Promsvyazradio, or for sending goods and services to it.

According to the Serbian Business Register, Ventrade was established on April 6, 2022—less than two months after the start of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine—with a founding capital of 120,000 dinars by a Hungarian national, Renata Meznerics, who also served as the company’s director.

Since July 2023, the registered director and founder of the company is Zsolt Lajgut, also a Hungarian citizen.

Sanctions were also imposed today on the company International Business Corporation from Bar, owned by Russian citizen Sergei Kokorev, for exporting military equipment from Montenegro to Russia.

According to the statement, Kokorev used the company for transshipment of machine centers and ball bearings of European origin to clients in Russia, including the company AMS Tekhnika, which is involved in the wholesale distribution of industrial machinery and equipment.
