Insurance Europe Welcomes New Leadership as Thea Utoft Høj Jensen Takes the Helm

(IN BRIEF) Insurance Europe has appointed Thea Utoft Høj Jensen as its new director general, set to succeed Michaela Koller, who has held the position for 18 years. Jensen, a seasoned professional with a background in financial services and European affairs, joins from FTI Consulting. She expressed eagerness to advocate for the insurance sector’s role in the European economy and to work alongside Insurance Europe’s respected team. Frédéric de Courtois, President of Insurance Europe, highlighted her expertise as an asset for the federation. Koller, reflecting on her tenure, voiced confidence in Jensen’s leadership to advance the organization’s mission.

(PRESS RELEASE) BRUSSELS, 4-Nov-2024— /EuropaWire/ — Insurance Europe, the representative body for Europe’s insurance and reinsurance industries, has appointed Thea Utoft Høj Jensen as its new director general, a role she will assume from Michaela Koller on November 4, 2024. Jensen, who will step into this leadership position following Koller’s 18-year tenure, brings with her an extensive background in financial services and European policy.

Joining from FTI Consulting, where she served as Senior Managing Director and Head of Financial Services in Brussels, Jensen’s nearly 20 years of experience spans both public and private sectors, including work for the Danish government. Expressing her enthusiasm for the new role, Jensen remarked, “I am thankful to Insurance Europe’s leadership for their trust. I look forward to working on behalf of every member to continue to promote the pivotal role that insurance and reinsurance plays for the European economy. I am also very excited to be joining an Insurance Europe team which is highly regarded for their knowledge and expertise.”

Reflecting on her years of service, outgoing director general Michaela Koller shared, “I am proud of what we at Insurance Europe have achieved together during my time as director general. I have always been and will be passionate about the industry, as insurance matters for people and the economy. I have full confidence Thea will continue to steer the federation forward and wish her every success.”

Frédéric de Courtois, President of Insurance Europe and deputy CEO of AXA Group, extended a warm welcome to Jensen, noting, “Her extensive experience working in and outside the EU’s institutions, coupled with her broad knowledge of the financial services sector, will be a great asset to the federation. Michaela’s decision to step down after so many years of service is certainly a loss not only to Insurance Europe, but to the industry as a whole. She has left a stronger federation that is well-respected and incredibly well-run, foundations that I have no doubt Thea will build upon for the future.”
